Tammy and Dave's Engagement
Monday, 01 September 2008

Dave popped the question to Tammy on top of Table Mountain so he suggested going up the Cable Car for their engagement shoot. It was FREEZING cold up top there - prime snuggling weather! We made it up the mountain just in time for the last car up and after cruising around the paths made sure that we made it back in time for the last car down... it would have been a LONG and very cold night stuck on top of the mountain!

Janet and Nick's Engagement
Wednesday, 27 August 2008

Janet and Nick love going walking in Van Riebeeck Park so they wanted to do their engagement shoot there - the rain just managed to hold off for the time we traipsed around the forest. What a gorgeous couple, I can't wait to see them on their wedding day if they look this good so early on a rainy morning!

Candid Moments
Monday, 11 August 2008
One of my favourite elements of a wedding (aside from gorgeous people, amazing details, beautiful venues and all the other cool stuff) has to be the overcharge of emotion - the anticipation, nervousness, tension, excitement, apprehension, contentment and of course a whole lotta love! Just a few candid images for today:

Clare and Greg's Engagement
Thursday, 24 July 2008

I met Greg and Clare last night in Tokai for an engagement session - it was a stunning evening to play around in the forest with such a fun and completely-into-each-other couple who are tying the knot next year January at the Mount Nelson Hotel.

"Hold the knife, look here and smile please"...
Tuesday, 22 July 2008

...is a phrase that will hopefully never pass my lips at a wedding I shoot. Nor will I ever ask you to cheesily smile at me with a perfectly positioned bouquet whilst signing the register in the church - or actually to interrupt in any of the 'official' proceedings of your day. I have been to weddings as a guest where photographers have shunted people around, told them where to stand and what to do - all to throw the bouquet to get the safe posed shot for the album. I like seeing how differently people do things; your wedding is unique and so your photos should reflect your individuality.

Isn't a shot like this much more fun than a rigid posed photo of the couple holding the cake knife and saying cheese?

Cape Town Weddings

Just a note though - although for most of the day I will be a fly on the wall, I do also love shooting fun and creative 'directed portraits' where I'll tell you what to do, where, and then see how you do it naturally... alot of the couple images you see on this site are some of these.

Getting ready shots
Thursday, 17 July 2008

It's winter time in South Africa which is low wedding season in Cape Town and a refreshing time for wedding photographers. Those amazing wonders known as weekends are a reality once again and for the first time in a year you get to look at a whole whack of images you've been shooting.

I'm going to be uploading just a FEW (really this time!) of my personal favourites from different parts of weddings taken last season, over the course of the next few weeks. The shots below are all from the bridal preparations before a wedding - this is one of my favourite parts to shoot as there is so much excitement, anticipation and tension around. Plus being a girl is great as I just kind of blend into the action...

Moments in Cuba
Thursday, 10 July 2008

Well I've been back in Cape Town for a little while already, just in time for the most gloriously wet and freezing week of constant rain - quite a shock after the 35 degree heat and humidity of Cuba. Anyway, today is the first day of blue skies in what seems like a very long while and I thought that it's about time to post a few images from an incredible trip. I'll be posting most of the images from this on my other site once I've had a chance to go through them, but for now these are just a few captured moments from our first few days in Cuba.

Admired in Africa
Thursday, 29 May 2008

With the summer season having been so busy it had slipped to the back of my mind that I had been interviewed in an online wedding magazine called Admired in Africa. I was really flattered to be featured as there are some other amazing wedding photographers interviewed so I was stoked to be ranked amongst them

Just a brief description of what this magazine is about in case you're wondering: “Admired in Africa is about the best photographers in Africa currently working in Africa. Not the the arty, too cool for the world or the guns blazing into war zones guys. The one’s that are making a living photographing, photographing maternities, portraits, lifestyle, fashion and yes, weddings."

For anyone interested, you can read the interview here.  Since a blog post isn't really complete without an image, I thought I'd put on the image that was used for the cover, taken at Lisl and Don's wedding at Kirstenbosch last year.

Bit of a break
Thursday, 29 May 2008
I'm heading off today on much-needed holiday/personal photographic adventure to Cuba and maybe even a few days in Europe somewhere... so the studio will be closed until 30 June 2008. I've been spending way too much time in front of the computer responding to emails so am going to do my best NOT to frequent internet cafes all that often. I will be checking email periodically though and will respond upon my return in SA. For all the blog-stalkers out there, check back in a month's time for some non-weddingy images...

Anthea and Alex at the Greek Club
Tuesday, 27 May 2008
Aside from Alex and Anthea being such a fun couple, I was really looking forward to their wedding as it was my first time to shoot a Greek Wedding at the only Greek church in Cape Town, which I'd heard was beautiful. The ceremony was pretty long and we ended up having about 5 minutes of light to do couple shots as well as some bridal party photos... so I was really grateful for the bridal car on location which we used for a few shots!

Anthea and Alex's Engagement
Friday, 23 May 2008

Anthea and Alex are one of those couples who look like they have non-stop fun together. I met them last night in a park down the road from their home where Alex actually popped the question and their dogs joined us for a little while too.  They're getting married tomorrow and after seeing how awesome they are together, am so excited to shoot their wedding!

Something a bit more corporate
Wednesday, 21 May 2008

I completely love what I do - how many jobs are there out there where you get to mess around and have fun with people? Yesterday I had the priviledge of doing a shoot with Wedding Concepts, an awesome wedding co-ordination team based in Cape Town. The winter rain managed to stay away and they were such a fun and down-to-earth group to work with!

Bookings for 2009
Wednesday, 14 May 2008

Just a quick entry about bookings for the upcoming season as I've been sending too many 'I'm unavailable' emails. For those brides-to-be out there, please note that I'm fully booked for weekends until the end of March 2009. If you're having a weekday wedding, I've still got some openings for those... but am no longer accepting commissions for weekends until April 2009. If you'd like to contact me for some suggestions, I'll be happy to recommend some other really good wedding photographers in Cape Town and Joburg who may be able to help you out!

Louise and Brad's Next Day Shoot
Monday, 12 May 2008

Since I arrived in Natal a few hours before Louise and Brad's wedding and didn't have time to do an engagement shoot with them, we thought a next day shoot on the beach would be a great idea. I was really impressed that these guys managed to get themselves out of bed at 6am and get back into their wedding gear after a huge party the night before!!

Debbie and Dax at Morgansvlei
Monday, 12 May 2008

The rain on their wedding day did absolutely nothing to dampen Debbie and Dax's celebration in Tulbach. I've seen excited brides before, but Debs literally pounced into her dress in excitement and couldn't keep still, Dax had a permanent grin for the entire day. Thanks guys for braving the rain, climbing out of windows voluntarily and for such contagious enthusiasm!

Morgansvlei is a stunning venue, something a little different to the winelands. Wedding Concepts did a great job once again organising every little detail and the flowers were unlike anything I've seen before, wow, I must get the contact details for the very creative florist.

By the way, for any brides out there who think that rain will ruin your photos and the whole day, that's really not the case. I like shooting in the rain, it forces you to do things a bit differently and gives a whole different feel to images. So no flare for this entry, just a whole lot of moodiness and a bit of a wonky umbrella. (Thanks Anne for the loan!)

Debbie and Dax's Engagement
Thursday, 08 May 2008

I met up with Debs and Dax at Ellerman House in Bantry Bay a few days before their wedding to do an engagement shoot as well as a stunning boudoir shoot with Debs. We started off with the boudoir shoot while Dax lurked around the swimming pool and by the time we got to the engagement part, I think Debs was all photo-ed out, although I don't think you'd say so looking at these which we took in a couple of minutes in the gardens. Maybe sometime I'll post one or 2 of the more innocent photos from the boudoir so watch this space!
