Hayley & Pete's Engagement

When I met Hayley and Pete last year to chat about their wedding taking place in October 2007, it sounded like years away. Now they're up from Joburg to attend to the last minute details for their wedding in Cape Town on Saturday. It was a freezing cold day yesterday so instead of heading to the beach, we decided to go to the Waterfront for Hayley and Pete's engagement shoot. (Apparently the Victoria and Albert Waterfront according to something Hayley saw on TV... although who calls it that I don't know!).
These guys were so much fun and really got into the shooting vibe... which is quite cool at the Waterfront as despite all the people around, most of them are tourists posing for photos anyway so you just kind of fit in! Anyway, here are a few from the session.

Chris and Simonne's Engagement

I went out to Grabouw on Saturday to check out Chris's family fruit farm, where him and Simonne will be getting married next year. Man, what an amazing place, after seeing it, I am especially excited to be shooting their wedding! While being taken to see the various locations for the wedding, we took a few shots:

Stu and Ang have been high school sweethearts since they were 13 years old and we always knew that they were perfect for each other and would get married. They're now just a little bit older with 2 extra additions! Stu is my brother - my family tend to make the most of having me around in Joburg so we
organised a last-minute shoot for their family and got some cool shots
of the 2 of the them too. I love this series:

It was a beautiful summer day in Joburg on Saturday for Jan and Warren's wedding - perfect for their ceremony outside under the jacaranda trees at Summerplace in Sandton. The service was probably the shortest one that I've ever been to, which left plenty of time to take photos before the reception. These guys are an awesome couple and Jan was not only strikingly beautiful bride but also such a thoughtful and kind woman who kept asking Caron and I if we were OK - in fact, she even told us to put our cameras down for a few moments and join in the festivities!
Thanks for letting me share in your special day - hope you guys have an amazing time in Mauritius!

Jan and Warren's Engagement
|

|
|
The whole reason I'm up in Joburg is to shoot Jan and Warren's wedding this Saturday, so it was great to meet them for the first time and find out that they're a fabulous couple! We did an engagement shoot on Monday - Warren completely hates having his photo taken but I think we got some great shots!

Justine and Justin's Engagement

Yesterday I shot Justine and Justin's engagement session in Joburg. These guys were such a blast - I had such a great time doing the shoot as they were completely fun and game for anything. They enthusiastically climbed on and into random garden objects and didn't even bat an eyelid at my instructions to get on top of a grader that I was very excited about to be on location.
Thanks for an awesome afternoon, guys - I'm so looking forward to your wedding in December!

In Joburg for the next week

|
I'm going up to Joburg for a wedding and will be there till 22 September. I'll be doing some engagement shoots up there, meeting up with brides and other photographers as well as seeing my extensive family. If you're having a wedding and would like to meet up with me, please give me a call. For existing clients or any enquiries, my email access will be slightly limited so if I don't get back to you right away, that's why!
I woke up this morning to a glorious day and this view of 'The Mountain' (lazily pronounced in Capetonian-speak) which I will ready for after a week in Gauteng. Another terrible day in Africa!

I recently imported some fine art books in from The States and I'm so impressed with the quality of these albums. The pages are laminated with a yummy matt finish which preserves the pages as well as giving a great classy feel. Each book comes with a dust jacket and a personalised silver-stamped slip case, which are available in black or red.
These albums are custom-designed by myself, with mixture of full-page, composites and double-pages spreads. A perfect way to tell the complete story of your day!

A few months ago I thought I would enter some photos in to the Fujifilm Professional 2007 Awards for the first time. I was pretty stoked this morning to see that a few of my images had won awards in several different categories.
These 2 from Nicole and David's wedding received awards in the wedding category:

When I was up in Joburg a while back, I did a boudoir shoot with a client who's wedding I'm shooting later in the year. I love boudoir shoots as there is always something completely unique, beautiful and sexy about everyone and I think as women, we are way too critical on ourselves. (My husband will vouch for this!) Plus I get to see all the awesome lingerie out there! I had loads of fun doing this particular shoot as she was remarkably confident with herself and nicely naughty, plus there were some great dogs involved as well as a stunning swimming pool to shoot at. Obviously these shoots are very personal and meant to be for 'his eyes only'... so I can't really post a lot of images from them, but this lady has generously agreed to let me post a few online. (By the way, nudity is not a 'requirement' of a boudoir shoot - some people are keen, others not so keen, it can whatever you want it to be!)

Steve and Karien's Wedding
|
|
Wednesday, 15 August 2007
|
|
Steve and Karien's wedding was one of the most beautifully simple and relaxed weddings that I've been to. The day started at Constantia Uitsig where a whole group of gorgeous flowergirls and ladies spruced themselves up, then onto a heart-felt service at the Stone Chapel at The Range and then to a delicious lunch and entertaining speeches back at the restaurant at Constantia Uitsig. The festivities then continued later that night as they transformed their home garden into an awesome party spot. It was wonderful to witness the way that these 2 enjoy each other's company and life so much - they were so easy to photograph as they seemed to just laugh the whole day long!

Jenny and Jorn's Engagement

|
Summer arrived back in Cape Town over the weekend... brilliant timing for Jenny and Jorn's engagement shoot at Hout Bay on Saturday. The sun had already ducked behind the mountain by the time we got there, but it was still beautiful and we mosied around on the beach for while and then found some cool old boats and fishing nets by the harbour. They were great participants as I got very excited by awesome textures and little nooks and crannies! They are such a lovely couple and clearly just such good friends... I can't wait to shoot their wedding at Olivello in Stellenbosch later this year.

Today is my husband Simon's 30th birthday and I thought it would be appropriate to acknowledge the genius behind my websites. Si is the fountain of all technical knowledge and designed both websites for me, whilst patiently enduring with my constant demands. Without his support, I would no doubt be ambling around taking random photographs on the streets of Cape Town. Thanks Si for being the most supportive and ama-zing husband ever and for always encouraging me to do my absolute best at everything I do. You rock!

Karien and Steve's Engagement Shoot

|
Wednesday, 25 July 2007

When I got an enquiry 3 weeks ago from Karien and Steve to shoot their wedding this August, I realised just how laid-back Capetonians can be! It's low season here though so I was available for their wedding which is taking place at Constantia Uitsig in a few weeks time.
A few days ago, I headed out to Milnerton to do an engagement session on the beach with them at the place where Steve proposed at the beginning of the year. It was great to be hanging around the beach barefoot in the middle of Cape Town's winter with them, Karien's son William and their energetic labrador Rolo!! Here are just a few photos from the session:

Last night was the opening night of my Africa: People and Paraphenalia exhibition in Cape Town and I thought it went down really well - loads more people came than I expected. What I found really interesting to see were people's reaction to different photographs. Some photographs really stand out to some people more than others.
A lot of people loved this photo:
